“ What's in a name? That which we call a rose,
by any other name would smell as sweet. ”

Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet

Ahem... actually, this is basically an attempt to see if a guestbook in this website might work without attracting too much spam. So, here is a question for those who care to reply and help test it. The box to post your answer is in the bottom, below the previous comments. You can enlarge the box by dragging the lower right corner. I think.

All the fans know that Vincent was named after St. Vincent's Hospital, near which he was found as an infant, on the coldest day of the year. But... suppose you could give him a different name? What name you would like, and why?

I\'d pick Alexander. It\'s a noble name, and it means \"Men hunter\", very appropriate. I\'m only uncertain about the four syllabes instead of two, I wonder how it sounds in the dialogue lines we know by heart.

COMMENT:
I can\'t imagine any name except Vincent! Now maybe if you\'d asked me back in 1987. ;-)

NAME: JoAnn

COMMENT:
I agree with Je, but if I had to pick another name, it might be Luke (if he were found near St. Luke\'s Hospital in Manhattan instead). It means \"light\" and has a nice breathy quality when spoken!

OK, so I did something wrong and the first attempt was just my name. I can’t really hear any name but Vincent when it comes to our favorite guy…I don’t think I’d ever met a Vincent before Beauty and the Beast, and I’ve only known one since (and he’s only 20 years old). Vincent suits him, in both the meaning of the name and the way is sounds when Catherine says it. It has a special sound, just as “Catherine” does when Vincent says it.

Has to be Vincent.... could you see him as a \"Bob\" or a Ted... I can tell you there is nothing mellifluous about \"Tim\" (my hubby\'s name). I had a Vincent in my class for 6 years, he too had reddish hair!

No, this brain cannot come up with another name. Like j\'e, I might have had better luck in \'87. But he has to be Vincent. But stay tuned: my mind is busily going after a MIDDLE name...

LOL You and me Janet - just call us fumblefingers...Vincent is such a perfect name for him, I\'m at a loss for anything comparable even after thinking about it for hours. The first thing that came to mind was Adam, since he is apparently the first of his kind, but that really doesn\'t suit him at all. No, Vincent just has no parallel.

COMMENT:
Vincent is the only name that feels right to me. As others have saud, I just can\'t wrap my mind around any other name, and it suits him so perfectly :)

I have searched my mind for Shakespear\'s characters and kings, and even names with an interesting meaning, but honnestly, I couldn\'t find anything better than \"Vincent\". I guess I wouldn\'t hate it if his name was \"Richard\" or Edward\" or \"Edmund\", but I believe that Father chose wisely on this one.

I hate the username \"Shlamari\". Please ignore it!

Vincent is just Vincent, to me. It\'s a strong name a beautiful name; perfect for a strong and beautiful man. And that\'s my two cents. :-)

COMMENT:
Well, after thinking about it, Vincent just suits him perfectly. It\'s such a strong, dignified name , and gentle too , because our Vincent is gentle. When Catherine is recovering down below after her dark night, the name she hears being gently said to her is,\"Vincent...\" Strong, dignified, yet gentle is what comes to mind which reflects him,,,,

Vincent is Vincent is Vincent. I like the name and it suits Ron Perlman\'s Character very well.

NAME: Lindariel

COMMENT:
Oddly enough, several names that I might have liked for the character of Vincent were actually given to rivals or enemies -- Michael, Stephen, and yes, even Gabriel! Other names that have appeal for me include Leander (it means strong brave man, and there is a Shakespearean character with that name); Jared (meaning either rose or down to earth); Jason (healer); Nicholas (victorious people); and Daniel (God is my judge or attractive).

COMMENT:
I love Vincent - it suits him perfectly. However, the other night I looked up Shakespearean names. Balthazar kept finding me. Now to research Celtic names...muwahahaha. I\'ll let you know! Lion hugs, Jodie xxooii

NAME: Renee Lemieux

COMMENT:
I think Vincent suits him quite well, it\'s a noble name and it does sound beautiful when Catherine says it just like her name sounds tastier coming from Vincent.

NAME: Rosemarie S.

COMMENT:
It was hard for me to get used to Vincent at first because I knew someone in my family who could not have been more different. Now, though, it is hard for me to think of him with any other name...BUT...one name that I have liked is Caleb. It sounds to me like an old soul, a bit mysterious and it means \"faithful\" which of course Vincent is. : )

NAME: Kathleen

COMMENT:
We\'ve heard Catherine saying \'Vincent\' so lovingly, it is hard to think of him with any other name -I like Caleb as well Rosemarie -I also like: Sebastian, Joshua, Thomas & Benjamin

NAME: Norma

COMMENT:
I agree with everybody that Vincent is best, but if I had to choose another it would be David because it means \"beloved.\"
