The Engagement Ring Short Story Contest

Welcome to a fun little extracurricular activity for those who love writing and those who love to win things! For this year’s annual convention and Conzine, I am putting out a special writer’s prompt that involves this engagement ring (see picture). So, here are the rules and information about this special contest:

  1. Use the aforementioned ring as the muse for your BATB short story.

  2. Your short story must start and end within 3 pages.

  3. Please keep your story within the BATB universe that we are familiar with. (So that would mean, for example, to please refrain from having a werewolf Vincent living in Paris as the center of your story.) Let’s keep the characters and places true to their origin.

  4. You have 2 weeks to complete your 3 page or less, short story. Yes, you read that correctly, 2 weeks. Since we are not going for full-on stories of unknown lengths, the cut-off time has been adjusted. Deadline: May 29, 2022

  5. You may enter only 1 story for this competition.

  6. All who enter will be put into the drawing for the ring that will be given away at this year’s convention. If you are not there, it will be mailed to you.  

  7. You will earn an additional (2) entries into the drawing if you also make use of it being the 35th anniversary of BATB somehow in the main flow of your story. Looking into the future, looking into the past, celebrating 35 years of…? You decide.  

  8. All stories entered will be put into the Conzine.
