Here in the Darkness

Heather Andrews November 27, 2005

Do not weep for the sunlight you cannot give me
Do not fear that I will mourn the day
For here in the darkness of below
One flame’s light reveals an entire world.
A candle’s flame in the sunlight is pale,
Wasted and scorned by those who are blinded by the sun.
The light above shines down on darkness
not the absence of light, but the shadow of the soul
And in the bleak deserts of the streets and sun
People stumble blindly from nothing, to nowhere.
All that matters has been lost. Empty are the promises.
Nothing surrounds me above. It is not my world.
But you, you who dwell in the absence of light
Create a radiance that inspires beauty, nourishes love
You transform the emptiness, making a home
And I go from nowhere, to somewhere
More wondrous for the absence of light
For here in the darkness of below
I have found my candle. Let me be your candle.
I have found my light. Let me be your flame.
I have found my heart. Let me unlock yours.
I have found
You.
