Yes, on October 11, 2012, something will happen, which it's difficult to describe. I think many, many of us would be extremely grateful to be wrong, but the impression today, from what we heard, read, listened or even watched, is that it won't be anything we will like. "We" being the fans who fell in love with a special Dream, made of love, of hope, of courage, of compassion, of personal growth and difficult and fulfilling relationships, of symbols and myths and magic and poetry and music and... and... and... Here is one of the most recent (Sep 22) online presentations of the CW show called "Beauty and the Beast" that will premiere on October 11, you can explore the web yourself for more: beauty-and-the-beast-on-the-cw One recurring and interesting feature in all of these annoucements are the enthusiastic praises in the comments of the fans who remember "our" show. I wish to say it again: it would be wonderful if we were wrong, if the show will turn out to be a beautiful, contemporary retelling of our beloved tale, where we can find its value and depth in a modern language and setting. If it will be so, or if it won't be so, I think that anyway the fandom, our beautiful fandom whose 25th anniversary we are celebrating, must be ready to welcome a tide of new interest, maybe of new fans, surely of stimulating challenge to its identity, to better understand what is it that "makes" the Dream that inspired and inspires us. I hope that in the next months we can have some interesting conversations about that, on the boards and on the lists. In the meantime... In the meantime, we have "our" B&B. We have talents. And we have ideas... One idea tossed in the many email conversations crossing the fandom was: what if "we" try to rewrite the Pilot in a contemporary setting? Well, many of you know JoAnn Baca. Tell "what if" to her and she switches the computer on. Thank you, dear JoAnn, for this loving re-imagining of our show; thank you for accepting the challenge to write in a script format unusual for you; thank you for treading softly; and thank you for this sweet balm on whatever scratches the unaware treaders will cause to our souls: "Tread softly, because you tread on my dreams" - W.B. Yeats
