Online Interview with Jay Acovone
March 2004

Part One

Marina: Jay, I would first like to thank you for giving this online interview.

Jay: No problem, except I'm a lousy typer and speller, so bare with me ..

Marina: Ok. (grin) Jay, what we all like to know is if you are working on a new project right now : a movie, a tv show, ....

Jay: Well,........I just finished a movie in Stockholm Sweden about 8 weeks ago and had a great time with all of my new VIKING friends. It was a joint venture between U.S. producers and Swedish producers and a Swedish director and I got to play the head of detectives on the police force (gee what a surprise). I had a great time, and just finished an episode of JAG and had some fun there also and that is my 2nd time doing Jag. I played BRIG. GENERAL MONTROSE ....... sooooooooo they shaved my head AGAIN . (stop laughing, its NOT FUNNY)

Marina: Oh dear .... LOL

Jay: And I recently had an episode of a show called "STRONG MEDICINE " that aired and some nice things were said about my performance (OK SO IT WAS MY MOM WHO SAID THOSE NICE THINGS) (SHUT UP))
Jay: next question darling

Marina: Is there a role you would still very much like to play, but haven't yet?

Jay: Well...........this question often comes up...........like a million times, and my answer is always the same; I remember quite a number of years ago now, that James Woods did a movie called the "ONION FIELD" and the character he played was frightening, and it has left a lasting impression on me.
I love playing bad or evil guys because you don't get to do that in real life (very much) and it's always fun to stretch and have people say "I didn't know you could be such a horrible bastard" ....... that's a great compliment for an actor to hear that

Marina: Yes ....  that is one of the ' advantages' of being an actor .. that you can 'live' another person's life and do things you otherwise can't.

Jay: so.......................... if I could find a really horrible person to play , I think that might be fun.

Marina: Jay, when you look back on your career ... what was your favourite character/role and why?

Jay: Well.............it's like something else we all know about (guess) in that there's nothing like the first time ... (thinking...) ....anyway............................I would have to say when I did the movie "Cruising" with AL Pacino, because I was young and very impressed and very nervous and full of life and excitement about working with great people. And nothing compares with the first time you get that phone call telling you, that "you're the one" , "you got the part " ... it was absolutely amazing and will never forget that .

Jay: wow - just had a flash back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jay: next darling :-)

Marina: Would you like to see a reunion movie for Beauty and the Beast made?  We are all hoping for that of course, but how would you feel about it?

Jay: Sure why not , that would be great ya know? I think it could be done and should be done. There are lots of avenues to explore, and what with Ron Perlman's new movie coming out ("HELL BOY"), he might have the juice to get it made . If they make it  ..."I WANT IN BABY"

Marina: Well. We are all very glad to hear that! So, just hypothetical .... if there would be a new movie ... would you want something to change about your role in it .. maybe a love interest for 'Joe' ...

Jay: HELL YES

Marina: Who? 'Jenny' maybe?

Jay: JOE NEEDS A LITTLE AFTER ALL THIS TIME BABY ...
Jay: ....maybe a hooker ...
Jay: ... doesn't matter ...
Jay: hahahahhahahah
Jay: Love those kinds of questions
Jay: ammmmmmmmmmmm

Marina: Well .. let's hope the writers will read this interview ... grin .. and give 'Joe' what he wants .. lol

Jay: YES DAMMIT
Jay: DAMN IT
Jay: sorry spelling sucks .. grin

Marina: Well - if there comes a movie ... we will start a petition ... to let them know that 'Joe' deserves some fun too ...LOL

Jay,  what do you feel about being a part of this BatB dream ... especially with it continuing so long after the series ended?

Jay: I think its great that all the people that watched the show really loved it enough to start a dream team and carry it for............................................how many years now .................."O God - - you're all crazy" ...

Marina: Well thank you ... we take that as a compliment! ...hahahaha

Jay: It's very flattering really and sometimes I'll go back and watch an episode of the show and think "man this was a great show" ...

Marina: Yes .... it was a great show ... very unique ...something that had never been ...

Jay: Yes it was and  I'm very proud to have been a part of it and very grateful as well.

Marina: Did you had that feeling at that moment too ... that it was indeed so unique ... was it any different than working on another tv show?

Jay: You mean when the show was on???

Marina: Yes

Jay: Well............it was a different kind of show than any of us were used to working on , it was a romantic fantasy type show ...

Marina: Yes, a mix of fantasy and romance and drama ...

Jay: ... and in the beginning I had my doubts  ..... thought it's either going to be liked or hated and no GREY AREA ....
Jay: aaaaaaaammmmmmmmmmmm
Jay: I think it kind of grew on people as the weeks went on and the popularity grew each week

Marina: Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that you initially said 'No' to the role of 'Joe' because you 'only had 5 lines' ... What made you change your mind?

Jay: Well......................yes that is true, and Paul Witt and Tony Thomas called me at my home and said "If you do this, we will make you one of the regulars on the show"

Jay: And then .... I did some thinking for 30 seconds and said YES ...

Marina: Good choice. lol

Jay: ....are you kidding ????????????????? OF COURSE IM DOING YOUR SHOW DUDE .....
Jay: ... and then voila .... B&B
