Full bloomed in midwinter
Heart-held and gold-bundled
Son of the city rough-planted in snow
Uprooted too soon:
Your loveliness never faltered.
No daystar glimmer ever dazzled your starlit eyes
But your deep-delving faith in Light
Turned our faces to the sun.
Do you hear the underworld rejoicing?
For your impassioned dawn ignites at last
Growing you skyward:
A vagrant sunflower aspiring
Through a storm drain's iron grate.
This is your annum of fulfillment
When things undreamed-of unfurl their petals
Raise nectared foreheads to the heavens
And generate a thousand motes of possibility
To seed the fertile earth with Love.
