Catherine lifted the
phone and called the curator of the museum. The day on her calendar was
September thirteenth.
"I'd like to rent the museum out for the evening of January twelfth." Her
voice traveled across the wires to the curator's ears."I'm planning a
masquerade birthday party for a friend of mine."
The curator checked the schedule of events and was able to get Catherine
the evening."No one else has something on that night yet so you'll be able
to have that night. In the morning on the thirteenth we're having a
wedding so one of the collection rooms is going to be used. They'll be
decorating that room during the day on the twelfth so you'll have the
night.
Time passed and the Helpers were gearing up to prepare for Winterfest when
they got special messages in Catherine's handwriting along with their
candles
"Come in costume on January 12th to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, two
hours after sundown."
Catherine got the Helper caterers and William in just before the other
group of people finished their decorating for the wedding. Catherine made
sure the other people had left totally before the sun had crept slowly on
its way down to the other side of the world.
The helper caterers started putting up lanterns to lead the way to the
darkened museum and eventually put up artificial candles that would not
set off fire alarms all over the place. William's feast gear was readied
hours ahead of time and the food was transported to the Museum in a Helper
rented food truck. Mini kitchen but all the hot food was being kept hot,
and the cold food kept chilled.
Vincent looked around as people were disappearing left and right to get
ready and then disappear into the coldest night of the year.
"Scuse us Vincent we gotta go..."
Mouse and Jamie were one of the first couples to get away, dressed
normally, but Jamie was carrying a backpack on her back that was bulging
with something.
"Where is everyone going?"
"Winterfest."
Jamie elbowed Mouse."Shh."
"Surprise for Vincent... Catherine says."
Vincent hmmed."I suppose I should go directly to the source then?"
He went to Catherine's apartment just after sunset to find an empty place
as he knocked on the french glass doors. He looked around the balcony and
found her first clue half buried in the dirt of a rosebush.
"Hello Vincent, If you're reading this, I have a surprise for you. Go
to where we first met..."
Vincent clambered back down the building as fast as he could and found
Rebecca standing near where he had found Catherine, and she had a bag with
her.
"Hi Vincent. Take this lantern, and keep it dark, but go to where
Catherine first found love's spark."
Vincent was also handed a backpack so he could put things in it as he went
from Above to Below... Other friends appeared giving him clues dressed in
different styles of artist works and other clues that finally led him to
the Museum.
Vincent was in awe as he finally entered, and found Catherine radiantly
dressed as a medieval queen. One of the Helpers that worked as a part time
docent gave the entire party a tour in several of the halls, avoiding the
wedding site.
As they turned the corner in one of the halls laden with Van Gogh's works
Mouse saw it, and then yelled out.
"Vincent come see! I found your name!"
"What? My name? Where?" The lion man and Catherine had straggled toward
the rear of the group to steal a kiss or two.
"Right here," Mouse pointed and then began to spell the name on the sign
next to the painting of the sunflowers.
"G I R A S O L I" The blond young man looked at Jamie."What does that mean?"
"Says right there it's Italian for Sunflowers." Jamie smiled.
In another hall that was going to be part of the wedding but not blocked
from the private party Catherine had planned, a dance area was set up.
Some of the musically inclined had smuggled their instruments into the
museum, and the hall rang with music and the scent of William's food until
the wee hours of the morning.
Parents took their sleepy children home after wishing Vincent a happy
birthday. Eventually all had gone home but for Catherine and Vincent.
"This isn't the Great Gall, but... may I have this dance, Catherine?"
