Ten
years ago, in January 2002, a very special discussion group was created,
thanks to the bubbling energy of Terrie Milliman, one of the founding
mothers and driving force of CABB at the time. According to the
description of the old home page, its mission was to talk about the
episodes of our beautiful show: “We will conduct in-depth discussions,
exchange ideas, etc. on the first 44 episodes of Beauty & the Beast,
starting with the pilot,
Once Upon A Time In the City Of New York, and
working our way through. These will be intelligent, moderated discussions
dealing with all aspects of the 44 programs. Because this is a Classic
group, the final season episodes will not be discussed.”
The discussions and exchange of ideas were indeed in-depth and intelligent.
Many fans participated, many insights were offered, many interesting
perspectives explored, one episode after the other. I think that some of
those who are currently reading these words will fondly remember all of
this.
The current list owner, Diane Kenny, has agreed that it might be time to
re-launch the group -- "Timing is perfect. We fans love to celebrate
our special BatB dates," she said -- and see if the magic happens again for new fans and
any older ones who want to contribute. Let’s express this wish and offer
it as a gift to Vincent, on his birthday, and to our dear Diane, waiting for her to
participate actively.
There are currently many other opportunities to enjoy and talk about our
beautiful show, as there were at that time, but the Episode Discussions
were something unique. For those who’d like to give the group a try, below
is the link to the Yahoo Group to subscribe… Existing members, as there
are still a couple hundred of you, may like to dust off your subscription
and once again begin discussing the episodes, one at a time.
Ten years ago, the first synopsis and questions to kick off the discussion
were posted by the acclaimed writer Teri, one of the moderators at the
time and still today, if dormant. In the next few days that same synopsis
and questions will be posted again, and let’s see what happens…
See you there!
